Planet Mark Certification

We Are Planet Mark Certified

We are proud to be a Planet Mark Certified Business. Being Planet Mark Certified means that we have taken the best first step towards achieving net zero, at a critical time for our planet.

As part of our commitment to making Partridges more sustainable, we have been proudly measuring carbon emissions with Planet Mark for 3 years.

To progress on the journey to net zero, it is important that we measure the full inventory of our carbon footprint as we cannot manage what we do not measure. As a Planet Mark Certified Business, we are therefore committed to increasing what we are measuring each year to eventually understand the carbon emissions associated with all our business activities, across our entire value chain. This is an important step on our journey to net zero as an organisation’s sustainability journey is also a measurement journey.

Once we know our total carbon footprint, we will be able to establish net zero targets and work towards achieving a 90% reduction across our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions*, to achieve net zero.

As part of being Planet Mark Certified, we are committed to achieving an annual 5% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions as well as minimum thresholds for data quality to ensure rigour in our measurement, from year three of certification onwards.

We look forward to sharing our future milestones as we progress through Planet Mark’s Net Zero Certification Programme. Take a look at our latest Planet Mark certificate for our 2025 reporting year to learn more about our measurement journey.

To accelerate our sustainability journey, we have already introduced the following initiatives:

  • Renewable electricity: We source renewable electricity, helping to significantly reduce the carbon emissions associated with our purchased energy. Electricity has seen the largest reduction in emissions within our latest reporting period, decreasing by 86.4 tCO₂e since 2024.
  • Energy monitoring and management: We have introduced an outsourced energy monitoring system that provides greater visibility of electricity consumption across our operations. This enables us to identify energy-intensive equipment, unusual consumption patterns and opportunities to improve day-to-day energy efficiency.
  • More energy-efficient refrigeration: We have invested in improvements to our refrigeration, including the installation of doors to previously open refrigerated display units. These measures help reduce unnecessary energy loss, improve temperature stability and lower the energy required to keep products at the correct temperature.
  • Lower-emission transport: We have incorporated the use of an electric van into our operations, supporting our efforts to reduce emissions associated with transport and deliveries.
  • Improved carbon measurement: We continue to strengthen the quality and scope of our environmental data, including energy, fuels, waste, business travel, employee commuting and transportation within our value chain, helping us better understand where emissions arise and where further reductions can be achieved.
  • Waste and resource efficiency: We continue to focus on reducing waste and improving resource efficiency across our operations, including responsible waste management, food waste reduction and initiatives aimed at reducing reliance on single-use materials.
  • Employee and customer engagement: Sustainability is increasingly embedded within our day-to-day operations through staff engagement, environmental awareness activities and customer-facing initiatives encouraging more sustainable behaviours.

These actions form part of our ongoing commitment to measuring, understanding and reducing our environmental impact. Our latest Planet Mark measurement shows that electricity emissions have reduced by 86.4 tCO₂e since 2024, while our expanded measurement of Scope 3 emissions is helping us focus future action on areas such as fuel- and energy-related activities and transportation within our value chain.

Scope 1 emissions: The emissions from sources that a company creates directly, for example from burning fuel in gas boilers and company-owned vehicles.

Scope 2 emissions: The emissions a company creates indirectly from the energy it purchases, such as electricity.

Scope 3 emissions: The emissions that are not produced directly by the company but occur throughout its value chain. Scope 3 is divided into 15 categories and includes areas such as business travel, waste, purchased goods and services, employee commuting and transportation and distribution.

Carolina R Cavanzo - Sustainability Coordinator for Partridges & Shepherd Foods, says:

“Achieving its latest Planet Mark certification reflects Partridges’ continued commitment to understanding and reducing its environmental impact. It has been rewarding to support this work and to see how improved measurement, energy monitoring and practical operational changes are helping Partridges turn sustainability commitments into measurable action. The progress achieved is encouraging, while recognising that sustainability is an ongoing journey and that there will always be opportunities to learn, improve and build on what has already been accomplished.”
