Ameixa d'Elvas were firstly confectioned in convents by dedicated nuns and destined to Portuguese aristocratic families' tables for festive occassions. It is now a popular sensation in Britian and a must-have for Christmas.
The plums are cooked and soaked in sugar syrup for six weeks then washed and sundried. They are only available between October and April and are ideal to accompany the cheese board at the end of a meal.
